There is a scene in Alfred Hitchcock's "The Birds" at the beginning of the film, where Tippy Hedren her sports car speeding through the green hills. Suddenly the camera pulls back failed to make a bay and seaside village so pristine and picturesque they show justice to a fine painting.
The film then goes to thousands of birds to terrorize this idyllic place and run Tippy and friend, Rod Taylor completely out of the city. Luckily, it wasall just a movie, and we are pleased to report that the movie's little village - Bodega Bay - has survived to an even more popular destination than it was before Hitchcock chose it for his film.
In fact, the birds in large companies bodega. You can not cross the street without a reminder that the movie was filmed there. The Tides Restaurant - played a large role in the movie - now has a gift shop, to a near-museum with its shelves and shelves of stuffed birds, Hitchcock hasPosters, photos and location almost every type of clothing you want emblazoned with a variety of Bodega Bay or "The Birds." Of course, no matter that burned the "right" restaurant a long time ago and the replacement buildings bear no resemblance to the used in the film.
What remains is the same sleepy seaside village that appeared in the film. While there are many new buildings have been added since release of the film in 1963, the city retains the same character, clearly in the film.
Our suggestion would be to rent "The Birds", before your trip to Bodega Bay. It will be fun comparing the many places in the film, as they now see 40 years later, and the film will also give you a good idea of what to expect when you arrive there - as long as the birds ignore.
You can also disregard a few geographic inconsistencies. For example, one of the most memorable scenes from the film is when the birds attack the childrenLand of the school and the children try to be an orderly withdrawal from the school only forced to run up and scream to the water. In the town of Bodega, you can visit Potter school that you remember from the movie.
Another great place to find the landscape is adapted to film, take Bay Hill Road from the village area a little more than a mile into the rolling hills above Bodega Bay. You will soon be back in a position to look at Bodega and exactly the same "establishing shot" of the bay,Hitchcock used in these early scenes of the film.
Back at the Tides Restaurant, there is still a little taste of water seen in the film. Trawlers bring their fresh seafood to a company in the dock, sit, and there are always lots of sea lions barking hoping to eat leftovers. In the film, Tippy rented a small motorboat on this dock before motoring across the bay to the house of her new friend.
Now for those that are less about filmmaking, Bodega Bay care could bestood firm, weekend, long before "The Birds" came out. The scenery along the scenic stretch of the coast of California is like an ocean-lover's paradise. It also helps that the area is relatively easy to achieve by the San Francisco Bay Area - Less than two hours from almost any Bay location, the most used by highway.
We spent the night in the Bodega Bay Lodge & Spa, the region only four Diamond Resort. The hotel is ideally located near the southeast coast of Bodega Bay,Property offers a wide range to go on the doorstep to explore the bay. The sights, sounds and smells of the bay are right there - especially the foghorns heard faintly in the distance, guiding ships away from the dangerous coast.
The cottage is located in an extended series of buildings that have updated with Cape Cod styling. The tastefully appointed suite was like a high-end studio apartment with a full living room next to the bed and a smallDesk arrangement. Particularly noteworthy was the oversized Jacuzzi, have some good use during our stay. At the other end of the unit, sliding glass doors opened to the bayshore, and a terrace offers a relaxing spot to watch the surroundings.
The Bodega Bay Lodge also has a resort-style pool and large Jacuzzi with sea view, quite popular were staying with a group of people, the economy seemed to make as part of a corporate retreat. Then of course we must not forget thatspa - not on our list of activities, but popular with the guests who come Bodega Bay for rest, relaxation and recreation.
Bodoga Bay offers ways to help, run to the beaches, as Shorttail Gulch Beach. The way to Shorttail is fairly new and allows access to a beach, the previously hard to reach. There is a whole network of such trails in the area, so for the endless hours of exploration and discovery.
If you are a short drive away, offers the coast near Bodegato explore the many spectacular vantage points on the sea and beaches. Driving this part of Highway 1, it seems that almost every bend in the road shows a different picture-perfect view of the rocky coast, spectacular cliffs, or Robinson Crusoe beaches.
Just south of Bodega Bay you will find Tomales Bay, a popular destination for kayakers and others who enjoy the upclose and personal contact with marine life in the region want. The Bodega Marine Laboratory, each Friday 2 to 4Clock, you can examine a number of aquarium displays with colorful fish, a kelp forest and other marine creatures.
Hitchcock really was looking for great scenery and not the birds that he finally has the film through special effects and mechanical devices. But ironically, Bodega Bay is the hot spot as "on the North Coast for finding rare birds known. More rare birds have been discovered in Bodega than any other place in Sonoma County - and fortunately none of them hasinitiated led an attack on the thousands of tourists to the area each year by "The Birds".
